Middle School Visits with Jack Adler, Holocaust Survivor

This morning our middle school students had the privilege of hearing from Jack Adler, a holocaust survivor.  Mr. Adler shared his experiences and how he survived the ghetto and concentration camps during World War II.   We believe this was an unique opportunity that future generations will not have available to them.    Our students listened intently and asked lots of important questions.  If you are a parent of a middle school student, please talk to them about all that they learned today.

Recognition from Douglas County School District

Douglas County School District has invited Mrs. Whatley, myself, and C2E families to attend next Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.  At that time Challenge to Excellence will be recognized for the outstanding growth our Middle School students showed on last Spring’s Language Arts PARCC test.  All of our students did an excellent job, but 8th grade had one of the highest growths in the district!  We are honored to accept this recognition for our hard working students and teachers.

If you are interested in attending, please meet us at the Douglas County School District office at 620 Wilcox, Castle Rock.  The meeting is held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5th, in the Board room, located on the 3rd floor.

Call to Action regarding the Hotel

Dear C2E families,

On June 5th, at 7 p.m., the Parker Town Council will be voting to approve the plans to build the hotel just north of the school.  I believe this will be our only opportunity to have our concerns heard regarding having a hotel built adjacent to the school.   We NEED as many families (including children) to be in attendance as possible.  If you have concerns you would like addressed you can sign up to speak.

If you are unable to attend, but want to have a say, please write a letter to the town council and send it to the address below, so that it arrives before June 5th.

The meeting will be held at Parker Town Hall, 20120 E. Mainstreet, Parker, CO  80138.  I urge you to join us there.

Thank you for a Wonderful Staff Appreciation Week

Dear Parents,

The staff and I want to express how thankful we are to have parents and students who celebrated us so generously last week.   We came in Monday morning to our classroom/office doors covered with posters and then had a week full of personal notes, snacks, a fun BBQ, new t-shirts, gift cards, a smoothie breakfast, and more!  Mrs. Whatley was particularly spoiled with all of the birthday wishes and states it was her best birthday ever!

Thank You Volunteers!

At the halfway point in our school year, I wanted to thank you all for the volunteer hours you have donated.
I am a firm believer (and research has proven) that students who have parents that volunteer in their school are more engaged in their learning. We know that more engaged students achieve more!
As you know, as a parent of students at Challenge to Excellence, you have committed to volunteering 20 hours a school year.  When you volunteer in the building and sign in at the front desk, your volunteer time is logged automatically.  However, I know that many of you have put in extensive hours volunteering outside of the school.  Please make sure that you have sign into from home and log your hour (if you are having trouble signing in, please contact Amy Clarke, our Volunteer Coordinator, at for help). Our school can benefit from local, state, and federal programs based on total volunteer hours.
If you haven’t had an opportunity to volunteer, there are lots of opportunities available.  Please check with your classroom teacher if you would like to volunteer in the classroom. If you would like to volunteer outside the classroom, please go to the Volunteer Opportunities page on our website. Here you will find sign ups for duties such as crosswalk, library, recess, vision and hearing screening, and more.
Our Parent Volunteer Association (PVA) has many fun opportunities coming up and is always looking for extra help.  Please look at the PVA website and sign up for activities that you would like to help with.  There are events such as Donuts for Dads, staff luncheons, our fun evening spring fundraiser, Casino Night, etc. Did you know that the time you spend attending the spring fundraiser can be considered volunteer hours?  Attending this event is a great way to support the school and to help us stay at the forefront of technology. Just remember to log your hours.
On Friday, January 27th we will be awarding a dress down day to students of families that have already completed their 20 hours (or more).  If you have not logged all of your hours, please do so by Tuesday night, January 24th. We will pull the list of all families that have 20 or more hours on Wednesday, January 25th so we can inform you and your student that they may dress down on Friday.
Near the end of the year we will check the volunteer information again and award another dress down day so that every student can be rewarded for their parent volunteering.
Thank you again for all you do for our school.  It has been a highlight of my year to see so many of you working so hard to make this the great school your children deserve.
